Alfredo Gómez Cantero: broken foot after heavy crash
"I'll have surgery on monday", says the Spanish Husqvarna rider. He expects to be sidelined from racing "for at least one moth." In preparation for his upcoming assault on the 'Red Bull Romaniacs' Hard Enduro in Romania, Gomez took part in a prestigious Gordexola extreme enduro race in Spain.

Winning Friday’s prologue, he took an early lead in the race. But a heavy crash ten minutes after the start of the main event saw the Husqvarna rider injure his foot. The result of the accident was a compound fracture of the metatarsal bone in his left foot. Gomez has since returned to his home in Madrid where he will undergo an operation to repair the damage.

Xavi Galindo (Extreme Enduro Team Manager of Bel-Ray Husqvarna Factory Racing): “This is a really unfortunate injury to happen to Alfredo. In a crash while leading the Gordexola, he suffered a compound fracture of his left foot. He will now undergo surgery to fix it but this injury rules him out of the Red Bull Romaniacs. After overcoming appendicitis earlier this year, Alfredo was getting back to his best. A podium result at The Tough One and Hard Enduro Piatra Neamt plus fourth place at the Red Bull Hare Scramble was proof of that. He was working hard to be ready for the Red Bull Romaniacs and was in a strong position to better his runner-up result of 2013. Due to the nature of the injury it’s still too early to tell how long Alfredo’s recovery will take but our immediate concern is to ensure that it will be a healthy one.” (source: husqvarna & ig.g)
